Binom approached us to work with them on a design for a pop-up restaurant for Iberica and the Spanish Tourist Office at the Hay-on-Wye Festival. They needed our help to create a modern Spanish tapas experience that still captured the essence of traditional Spanish culture. They commissioned us to produce the logo as well as typographic illustrations for the table top and wall panel surfaces.
We were inspired by the many styles of traditional Spanish floor and wall tiles and used this as the basis for our design concept. We illustrated a series of graphic tiles, each containing a word with a unique typeface. These were then gridded up to various sizes, and vinyl printed on the wall and table surfaces. We wanted the logo to stand-alone and apart from the tile illustrations, and worked to create blackboard-style signage with the logo chalk rendered onto it. This was then screen printed onto wooden and chalk signage boards at the festival, as well as tote bags.
