The Conservatoire for Dance and Drama, a world-class higher education and training organisation of performance arts schools including RADA, LAMDA and the Central School of Ballet, issued a tender in 2015 to redesign their website with a full digital strategy. It required a website that would engage its multiple audience groups and provide a seamless user experience whilst showcasing the many online channels and breadth of content from its schools. Accessibility was to be a vital aspect of the design, as a significant proportion of the schools’ students have specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia.
The design for the Conservatoire’s new website serves to represent the energy, creativity and diversity of the organisation’s students and their output. The update provides clearer navigation and improved functionality across the website, incorporating more images and video, and the capacity to link to individual posts more easily and share them via social media. Improved accessibility is facilitated by interactive features, larger text and user-friendly, intuitive navigation.
New features include a dedicated alumni page, which showcases the organisation’s notable alumni from across the eight schools, and an ‘at a glance’ page which incorporates animated key statistics. The new ‘global reach’ visual pins all of the Conservatoire’s schools onto a map, and serves to highlight the reach of its schools around the world.
Ave Design have been fantastic to work with, supporting us through every stage of the project. As a complex organisation with multiple stakeholders, we needed a design agency who would have a clear grasp of our brief from the start, and Ave came in with the ideas and passion to create something truly exciting. We are thrilled with the result: a beautiful, clean design which reflects the broad canvas of the eight Conservatoire schools across dance, drama and circus arts, and our mission to train exceptional artists together.
